291 - Random

Today I was full of random thoughts:

1) If/when I ever have kids, I'm going to convince them that on their birthdays they should give me gifts and not the other way around. After all, I'm the one doing all the hard work. Now I know you're thinking, 'but that's what Mother's Day is for'... No. Don't think so. If you have two kids you still get only one MD -- how is that fair?

What?... They'll get their big day when Christmas rolls around...

2) Today was the longest day of the year. Unfortunately, the long part happened to me at work and not at home.

3) I was reading an article about how talking on a cellphone, even if you use a hands-free device, can impair your reaction time, and I found two things funny in the first five pages. If you read boring droll informational pamphlets the way I do, they can be quite entertaining:

Something about this doesn't add up:

"Cell phone use has grown dramatically over the past 15 years. In 1995, cell phone subscriptions covered only 13 percent of the U.S. population; by 2008, that had grown to 87 percent."

So I kinda don't know if I can trust the rest of the data in your report... (ironically, even though they're unrelated, 13+87=100...hmmm... is it meaningful?)

And, my brain is being stolen from, just like in Office Space. No wonder my memory sucks!

"Longer reaction time is an outcome of the brain switching focus. This impacts driving performance. The cost of switching could be a few tenths of a second per switch. When the brain switches repeatedly between tasks, these costs add up."

That is all.

  1. "These costs add up" and I'm already overdrawn!

I totally agree with the birthday, Mother's Day thought. (Will you be giving your mom a gift on Saturday?)

  2. Ms A has a good point, will you be giving your Mom a gift on Saturday? LOL

and on the numbers if the 13% is not included in the 87% then everyone should have a cell phone now which can't be true because I don't unless you consider Cindy's phone mine also then if that's the case the cell phone company is counting couples as one which works I guess depending on the couple.

Loved your random comments by the way :)

  3. My sister joked about me getting her a gift for my birthday for a month leading up to my 11th. So when my birthday rolled around and she found that I had actually gone and bought her a present, she was completely shocked, and went around feeling guilty the rest of the day.

  4. Instead of 13%, now 87% have cell phones, which leaves 13% who do not. 13? 87? just coincidence.

  5. I was kinds hoping you would go into details about why your day at work was so long...but maybe I am just too nosy. But you know we like to learn every detail of your life.

  6. I agree with Joe--we do enjoy reading about every detail of your life (it does sound nosy..!)Too bad if it is, I'm not ashamed to say I'm nosy :P And about the cellphone thing..weird!

  7. The Queen High Mistress of the Universe! It's been so long. I see your randomness is still here! :)

Haha, your kids giving you gifts on their birthdays kind of makes sense actually. It IS the date you have suffered the most for them. (Or would have suffered..? will be suffering?)

About the percentage of cellphone use, I believe the 13% has grown /to/ 87%. It hasn't /increased/ by 87%. And even if it did have increased by 87%, the percentage of subscriptions would be 24.31% of the U.S. population. ... I'm not even sure I got that right. In much simpler terms, it's what middle child said.

Eh, I think my comment is long enough. I'm just saying hi! I'm trying to catch up on my favourite blogs, you see. :)

  8. Ms. A / Jimmy - Hellz no! That birthday scam is only relevant to me and my kids! Whaddaya think I'm stupid? lol

TS - LOL, way to turn the tables... but I still think she came out the winner!

Middle Child - I'm not so sure...

Joe / Sarah - Believe me - I spared you. It was long because it was bor-ring. If anything interesting happens, do I not keep you informed? WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME??? ;p

Missy Kimmy - MISSY KIMMY! We have missed you so! Are you blogging again or just stopping by to tease us? Either way, nice to hear from you again!
